Thought I'd sneak in just one more post in 2011 featuring the most popular blog topics of the year. Let's hope 2012 brings with it an improving economy and even more home entertainment innovations.

Hot Interior Design Trends for Luxury Homes

TRUFIG for Interior DesignerAt the Architectural Digest Home Design Show held in New York City, TRUFIG was awarded 'Most Innovative Product' by the ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) in their 'Top Pick Awards 2011 Best in Show'. Subscribers of this blog are probably aware of how TRUFIG augments interior design, but if not, be sure to read the TRUFIG blog posts and see the TRUFIG information page on the main DSI website. TRUFIG is a unique flush-mounting system for common wall accessories, such as the electrical outlet shown at the right cleverly "hidden" in the granite backsplash. Interior designers and architects love how this flush-mounting system compliments the interior design of their projects.

The Most Beautiful In-Wall iPad Mount Yet - Flush With the Wall

The whole world seems to be in love with the iPad, including home automation manufacturers. Four of the big names in home automation / smart home controls: Crestron, AMX, Control4, and Savant, have applications to use an iPad as the touchscreen interface to control your home’s subsystems (audio/video, lighting controls, security, climate, surveillance cameras, pool/spa, etc). For Savant home automation, the only available touchscreen controls that make their system work are Apple products: the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch.

Followers of this blog and our website know that we are big fans of the interior design-friendly products made by TRUFIG. If you haven't seen TRUFIG's flush-mount products yet, visit the TRUFIG page here> for pictures and installation videos. With TRUFIG, DSI can make common household fixtures like electrical outlets, lighting controls, dimmers and home automation touch screens almost disappear.

Flush Mount Electronics in Granite & Wood? - You Can with TRUFIG!

TRUFIG flush mount wood and stone kits

One of our favorite product lines is the wall accessory flush-mounting system created by TRUFIG. Though released less than two years ago, the flush-mount look TRUFIG created has caused quite a stir with the architectural and design community...look at the pictures and you quickly see why. We have a lighting keypad, home automation touchscreen, and an electrical outlet flush-mounted at our Los Angeles showroom, and everyone comments on how much they like it and wish they had it in their own homes. Kits are available to flush mount light switches/dimmers, touchscreens, keypads, electrical outlets, data jacks, and volume controls into walls without visually obtrusive flanges. The end result is a uniform industrial design that looks great.

When TRUFIG first launched, their kits were designed for standard drywall or plaster finished wall surfaces. Now, they have created flush mount kits for hard-surfaced walls, such as stone and wood finishes. The graphic at the top right shows an example of some of these new applications...for bigger pictures and to download TRUFIG literature, please visit or for a wealth of TRUFIG information, visit DSI's TRUFIG website page, which has links to pretty much all of the TRUFIG applications available and PDF's of product literature.

The video below is provided courtesy of TRUFIG, with a voiceover by yours truly. This animation gives you an idea of how TRUFIG installs in drywall/plaster, see installation videos for stone and wood surface walls, be sure to visit and bookmark DSI's TRUFIG website page:

Kits are available to flush mount popular home automation and lighting control system products, too, such as Lutron's seeTouch keypad and Crestron's 6" (TPS-6L) and 12" diagonal in-wall touchscreens. Please call DSI at 866-692-8489 if you have any questions about a TRUFIG application...if one does not exist yet for an application you are interested in, they may be able to custom make a kit for you.

TRUFIG's sister company, Sonance, makes matching flangeless speakers, known as the 'architectural series'. These flush mount speakers are available in square, round, and rectangular shapes. The positive feedback Sonance received from the architect and interior design communities with these speakers led them to create TRUFIG, and now more than ever it is important for architects and interior designers to consult with audio video integrators (such as DSI Entertainment Systems!) at least 2 to 3 months prior to construction documents for device/speaker placement and space planning. A little early planning goes a long way towards a much better interior aesthetic. With early planning, the in-ceiling speakers line up and visually match the light fixtures...they will not draw undue attention to themselves (if you don't want to see the speakers at all, consider Sonance's invisible SA "Sound Advance" series of speakers).

If you are building or remodeling your home and would like to learn more about integrating audio video technology, please be sure to download DSI's free "Must Know Technology Tips" whitepaper by clicking the orange box to the left. For immediate assistance, please give us a call at 866-692-8489 or visit the Los Angeles showroom.
