Does the Lutron RadioRA 2 Lighting System Live Up To The Hype?

Lutron is the 800 lb. gorilla of whole home lighting control. 

The Lutron HomeWorks system is the gold standard for a hard-wired whole house lighting control solution. We sell a ton of the product and the results are always terrific. Lutron is also known for the Radio Ra system which is sort of a lower cost approach to adding lighting control to an existing home that cannot accommodate all of the wiring necessary for a Lutron Homeworks system. Instead of the specialized electrical and low-voltage wiring needed with many lighting control systems, the Radio Ra light switches, dimmers, and keypads communicate with RF (radio frequency), like your cordless phone or cell phone does. This allows Radio Ra to be easily retrofited to existing homes in addition to smaller scale new home construction projects. Radio Ra has been a decent solution but with a lot of limitations on its capabilities...until now.

Lutron has released the latest incarnation of Radio Ra called.... Radio Ra 2. Lutron does not get any points in the creative name department but they do deserve some major kudos for the improvements in this product.  

Some of the new improvements are:

• Built-in astronomical time clock for setting and forgetting timed lights
• Improved wireless range
• The ability to install a keypad without having to carve up your walls
• Grafik Eye compatibility (Lutron's popular single room lighting control solution)
• The ability to add Lutron Sivoia shading without a bunch of additional costly hardware
• The ability to communicate with occupancy sensors (great for California with the Title 24 requirements) 
• Lower hardware pricing
