Mirror TV's - How to Hide a TV in Plain Sight

Let's face it...a TV, when turned off, isn't the most pretty thing in the room. As custom audio video solution providers, we have become the friends of many an architect and interior designer by going to great lengths to hide TV's behind artwork, motorized panels, within artwork (motorized art frames), and the list goes on (you can visit DSI's hidden audio video page for more information on this topic). One growing trend is the "mirror TV", which is a easy way to hide a television in plain sight.

In the past, we had to custom engineer solutions on a per project basis, calling local glass and mirror vendors to find the best compromise of reflectivity (to conceal the TV) and light transmission (so the TV's image wouldn't be too dark). This time-consuming trial and error problem has been fixed, as manufacturers such as NuVision, Seura, Media Décor, and Ad Notam have pre-engineered solutions for this application.

There are two different approaches with "mirror TV's": 1 - using the entire TV screen as a mirror, as shown above with NuVision's 55" TV and to the right with Media Décor's solution, which uses a motorized drop down curtain and artistic frame styles.  2 - embedding the TV within a larger mirror surface, as shown with a Seura mirror TV at DSI's Los Angeles showroom pictured below. This 2nd category has a lot of TV and mirror size options...since flat-panel TV's are so thin these days the hidden TV can be quite large and concealed behind a wall-sized mirror, so they aren't just for high-tech bathroom solutions anymore.
