High-End Home Theater Controlled by Crestron Home Automation
What good is the world's best home theater if you can't operate it? The answer is obvious, but it is amazing to me that with so many so-called "expert" home theater installation companies out there, that still so many of them are needlessly complicated to operate. For these unfortunate clients, they may need their tech-savvy teenagers or an audio video geek buddy operate their fancy, overly-complicated "universal remote control" for them. It shouldn't be this way...scroll down to the two videos below for examples of home theater control done right.
Fortunately, there are many great remote controls on the market that can easily control your home cinema system, as long as they are programmed correctly. Some of the popular mid-to-high end control options are Crestron, AMX, Control4, and Savant. All four of these brands will also let you use your Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad as a touchscreen control, too, but there are some limitations of using these as your primary remote control.
We've long been fans of Crestron touchscreens, they are very customizable to exactly what the client wants, and reliable, too. Beyond controlling a home theater or media room, Crestron, AMX, Control4, and Savant control systems serve as the backbone of a home automation system.
DSI has won a lot of raving fans (and even a few awards from Crestron themselves) for making home theaters, media rooms, and home automation systems easy to use. Here is how we do it:
- created a unique, in-house touchscreen interface that is intuitive (no manual needed!). Descriptive icons make it easy for you to control audio-video, lighting, climate, security, and more (if you can get cash out of a bank ATM machine, you can control the most elaborate audio/video and home automation system we've ever completed!)
- a thorough understanding that 99% of people want the most basic control options possible. In other words, the less buttons, the better! Does that describe you??
- build a bulletproof IT backbone using enterprise-grade components (most control systems use Ethernet and WiFi for communication, and consumer-grade components are not reliable or configurable enough). DSI has an internal IT department for this very need.
- in-house programming department. This is HUGE contributor to happy clients. By having four programmers on staff, DSI and our clients are not at the mercy of a 3rd party to customize any functions or update your remote for the latest game console, Blu-ray player, etc. that you add to the system.
So...do you want to see a Crestron system in action?? The two videos below highlight two different touchscreens; the first shows a large 15" model built-into a motorized console that pops-out between two of the Fortress Seating home theater seats. The second video shows home cinema control with a wireless Crestron TPS-6X touchscreen. As you will see, both touchscreens control the audio video sources, the theater's Crestron lighting system, and even a motorized acoustic door. Also controlled (but not shown in the video) is climate and security camera control. This custom screening room also features a 4-way automatic masking screen and the ability to view of to four images simultaneously, visit DSI's home theater videos page to view by clicking here > home theater videos
